What to do in Hawaii

Written by Marie Glodt at Travel to Maui.

As a Hawaiian Destination Specialist, and travel agent at Travel to Maui I get asked all the time “What is fun to do in Hawaii?” Or “Can you tell me the things I can miss while I am there?”

Hawaii is blessed with wonderful year round weather. Our average temperature is 75-85 degrees Fahrenheit. This allows you as a visitor (and me as a resident) to enjoy the sunny outdoors year round!

Listed below are a few of my favorite things to do in the Hawaiian Islands. This includes: Maui, Molokai, Kauai, Oahu, and the Big Island of Hawaii.

Hawaii is filled with a rich heritage. The Native Hawaiian people ancestry can be found on all the islands in our museums, ancient fishponds, petroglyphs (fragile rock drawings), and on the island of Oahu the residence of royalty.

Kauai: The Garden Island
One of my favorite tours is the combination zip line tour with a 30 minute horseback ride on the north shore.

Also popular would be the mountain tubing, river kayaking or stand up paddling.

Oahu: The gathering Place
Oahu is home to some of the finest museum and historical sites in the islands.

Historical sites on Oahu would include the Arizona Memorial, Bishop Museum, Iolani Palace, Mission House Museum, or the Dole Plantation.

Ride a Hawaiian canoe or learn how to surf on world famous Waikiki Beach.

Enjoy free evening entertainment Tuesday through Saturday at 6pm and other special performances by Royal Hawaiian Band and Polynesian Cultural Center

Lanai: Hawaii’s Most Enticing Island

Lanai is home to 2 award winning golf courses. Both ranked the best in the country.

Snorkel at Hulop’e Bay. This beautiful site was once an ancient Hawaiian village. It is known for the frequent sighting of the Hawaiian spinner dolphins.

Sporting clays, archery and air rifles is another exciting adventure available on the island of Lanai.

Molokai: Hawaiian by Nature

Ride a mule to Kalaupapa. This steep 3 mile trail to Kalaupapa Peninsula is Molokai most famous activity or tour.

Check out Molokai ancient fishpond dating back to the 13th century.

The Big Island: Hawaii’s Island of Adventure
The island of Hawaii is the only island in the state with an active volcano.
I have flown over it by helicopter. I have seen the lava flowing into the sea while cruising by on my 7 day cruise of the islands. Both options were AMAZING!  It is a must do when you are in Hawaii.

Maui: The Magic Isle Maui is filled with wide variety of tours and activities. This includes everything from agricultural tours- zip line rides over lush green valleys.

Maui also has also been noted more than once for having the best beaches and traditional Hawaiian luaus.

Travel tips for your Tahiti honeymoon in 2012

Written and photos by Marie Glodt Certified Tahiti Specialist

The mere mention of the word Tahiti makes people smile! What is not to love about the islands of Tahiti with their turquoise water, fresh flower leis, world class spas and a laid back life style only the Polynesians know how to master!

Most people when they dream of their honeymoon in Tahiti will picture themselves in an over the water bungalow!

Unlike any other hotel room you’ve stayed in before, these traditional thatched-roof bungalows are perched above tranquil lagoon waters. In many of the over water bungalows, tropical fish swim below as you look through the glass floor or coffee table.

With all the amenities of a first-class hotel room, here on your private balcony surrounded only by water and sky, you can enjoy both breakfast, often delivered by canoe.

Looking for oceanfront view without being directly over the water? A beach bungalow allows you to walk directly from your bungalow to the sandy beach. Some of the finer properties also include your own pool or jacuzzi.

Trying to keep your costs down on your Tahiti vacation? A garden view is less expensive option while still offering all the amenities the resorts have to offer. Because the Tahitian islands are small and most aren’t densely populated, the garden bungalows offer privacy without the ocean view price.

Looking for an all inclusive option to Tahiti?  We offer an exotic 7-10 day cruise around the islands of Tahiti and have all your meals and entertainment included in the price of your travel package.

Not sure of what to do when you arrive in Tahiti? As your Tahiti Specialist we can arrange various tours and excursions to complete your honeymoon package.

Explore the island interiors on a 4×4 safari, guided nature hike, or horseback ride. Skim across the lagoons on a jet ski, sailboat, or powerboat. For dramatic views above the islands, take a helicopter tour.

Divers and snorkelers are amazed by how clear the waters are and how close they can swim to the marine life, such as the gigantic manta rays. With hundreds of dive sites throughout the islands of Tahiti, divers can choose from the amazing drift dives, oceanic drop-offs, sunken ships, and lagoon dives with colorful marine life.

Where did the Bachelorette stay while in Tahiti?

At the romantic Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa

Where did Ali from the Bachelorette stay while in Tahiti?

During the 2010 filming of the Bachelorette Ali stayed 1st at the luxurious resort of Le Taha’a aka as Le Tahaa.

During the second part of her Tahiti vacation she stayed on the romantic island of Bora Bora at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui.

Tahiti is known for the warm hospitality of her people. The beautiful contrasts of azure blue oceans and lush, emerald green, volcanic mountains are a feast for the eyes!

Located in the Pacific Ocean, Tahiti and its surrounding islands are only a 5-hour nonstop flight from Hawaii. This flight out of Honolulu is offered once a week making it a great stop-over point enroute from the mainland, United States. The Tahitian islands offer intimate resorts, tiny private islands, and warm waters for honeymooners or romantics alike. Bask in privacy in your over-the-water bungalow watching tropical fish through your private viewing port, or get pampered in world class spas. For the more adventurous travelers, spend a morning swimming with the dolphins, scuba diving, feeding the sharks, or petting a manta ray.
